Dental Crowns & Bridges
Crowns
At Dr. Johnson's Dental Office, we are fully equipped to replace existing crowns and fillings with new crowns. If a patient has an existing filling that is defective, with secondary decay around the margins or if the tooth has been fractured to the degree that it can not be restored effectively with a routine filling material, we gently shape and reduce the tooth to receive the crown. The crown is then placed over the remaining tooth structure in order to stabilize it, acting as a splint. This will prevent any further degrading of the tooth.
Bridges
Bridges are used to replace a missing tooth. If we decide that you are in need of a bridge, we will place a crown on the tooth in front of and behind the open space where the tooth used to be located. After that, a laboratory will create an artifical tooth, which will then be soldered to the two crowns. The tooth will then be cemented permanently into place to replace the missing tooth.
